Garden Update #2, the South Facing Bed: A series of pictures from June - July

.......................... First Day of Planting: May 26th............................
June 10th:..............................July 24th.....................................

This is a very quick, condensed update about how the garden is growing, using the following picture series, by date:
May 29th: (the day this happened), Planting Before the Storm

June 10th: The Day the Garden was Mulched

June 29th: Happily Growing

July 24th: First Crops and they survived this (with minimal watering!)

Favourite picture from each bed:

a).................................b)......................c)...............................

a) Three beautiful purple cabbages such as this one are growing in this bed! There are also some ground cherries, tomatoes, and some purple basil that isn't doing very well.

b) This is the Orange Zest Sweet Pepper Plant. There is one other one growing in this bed along with two green peppers. Other varieties of peppers are growing in both the hay bale planter and the South East Bed.

In this bed there is also a wonderful example of lettuce bolting. I have left them there and let them flower... it's kind of an experiment... for now.

c) Anise Hyssop. Bees, moths and butterflies LOVE IT. There are also some peas, onions, swiss chard, more ground cherries, and some Fruit Sage, that I have now decided is the most beautiful smelling plant on earth, are growing here too. There is also a little stevia plant popping up (it had been broken some time in June).

This bed (not featured above) is probably the least successful so far. The broccoli just aren't growing. There is some nice orange mint in this bed though, as well as some peas that are doing alright.
May 19th..................June 10th..................July 24th....................

This section of the bed has astonished me! The summer squash and white aubergine plants exploded by mid-July. They have basically taken over the whole area although there are some tomatoes and peas also growing at the edges.

White Aubergine and Summer Squash growing side-by-side!

The previous week, which also happened to be my birthday week, I harvested my first veggie: this house-sized summer squash.
(After harvesting the others grew quickly to fill the void (pictured above).
)

To review, this turned into................this... and keeps growing!

Next up: Updates on the new South East Bed, AND....

How a couple of friends and I built a Hay Bale Raised Bed.

I plan on planting a fall crop and hosting a mushroom workshop! Please contact me rorees@gmail.com if you would be interested in attending.
